Listen to Bright Anger, Listen to Bright Sweet Anger: Wisconsin

Listen to Bright Anger, Listen to Bright Sweet Anger, is a multidimensional, site-specific installation of flags on exhibit at ACRE in Stueben, Wisconsin. The piece starts with a silent group procession, equipped with banner-like flags and a paleta cart created by Gabriel Moreno, to the remote site of a double flagpole originally created by Cristina Victor. On site, and with support from Lakshmi Ramgopal, Mark Blanchard, Ashley King, and Jade-Paula Cabrera, Lukaza directs a flag raising and participatory reading centered on a responsorial using the words listen, bright, anger, and sweet. Poignantly examining ideas about mourning, protest and celebration, the raised flags read “Knowing These Stories By Heart”, and “The Fact That We Are Dying Everyday”. The performance closes with a symbolic gesture of sweetness and care—eating paleta together.
